About The Baltic Sea Spirit
Magnus Rietz Photographer and Author

Magnus Rietz has always had a very close relationship with the sea and for most of the year you will either find him on it or close by. With a professional background in nature photography with a marine as well as a maritime emphasis he has spent much of his life documenting many aspects of this unique environment. The Baltic Sea Spirit initiative is a direct result of his lifelong passion for the diversity and endless possibilities that the marine environment has to offer us all.
Magnus is convinced that it is a dedication to the meaning of the Baltic Sea that will retain its ability to get through its current problems and that it is an understanding of the delicate balance of its ecosystems that he can best make a lasting contribution to this. In short, he wants to do what he can with what he has. Not least because he has had the privilege of being able to make a living from this unique environment for almost thirty years.
With his nautical background, Magnus Rietz is responsible for the boats that The Baltic Sea Spirit has at its disposal and that are frequently used in its various projects. He is a former Commando, has worked in the shipping industry and aside from his photographic work has been deeply involved in nature preservation projects as well as historic building conservation.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT
The Baltic Sea Spirit is happy to welcome partners and associates to Sigsarve Grange which is located on northern Gotland. The property offers an ideal opportunity for meetings and discussions in a singularly inspiring environment. Suitable for groups of up to ten people it offers all the amenities you could require. It is close to the sea, the surrounding countryside is magnificent and its peaceful location means that it is an oasis in which to create solutions rather than to dwell on problems.
Workboats

Between 2005 and 2020 a large number of expeditions and photographic assignments were carried out using our own vessel "J. Robert Wiberg" – a Kewatec Squid. It was built specifically for this purpose and it is hard to find a more capable boat in its class. In 2020, The Baltic Sea Spirit sold the vessel to the Voice of the Ocean Foundation where it continues to serve as an important tool in its activities around the Baltic Sea.

The Baltic Sea Spirit has just acquired a new workboat,
this time it is a Nordstar Patrol. She was commissioned in the autumn of 2021. The vessel replaces our earlier Kewatec boat and is significantly smaller than her predecessor which means she is more fuel efficient, something that we take very seriously. Nevertheless, she is well-equipped and suits her new role well.
